Serves 4

  • 1 (15 to 16 oz) jar marinara sauce
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 8 oz sweet Italian cheese-and-parsley sausage
  • 2 tbsp chopped fresh basil
  • 2 (9 to 10) pkg gnocchi
  • grated parmigiano-reggiano cheese, optional garnish
  1. In a medium saucepan, heat sauce over medium heat. 
  2. Meanwhile, in a medium skillet, heat oil over medium heat.  Add sausage and cook, stirring frequently with a wooden spoon, breaking up sausage, about 3 minutes, until no longer pink.  Remove with slotted spoon to sauce.  Stir in basil.  Keep warm over low heat. 
  3. Cook gnocchi according to package directions; drain. 
  4. Spoon gnocchi into serving bowls.  Pour sauce over gnocchi.  Sprinkl with cheese, if desired.
